WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
MATH
We are finishing up math iReady.  I also reviewed lesson 1- multiplying and dividing by 10s, 100s, and 1000s from millions to thousandths today.  We have been using our place value chart but will be learning to do this without that chart as their knowledge of place value continues to strengthen.
Students are challenged to complete 4 or more Zearn lessons a week this year.  Last week was difficult to do due to some interruptions and just technical difficulty.  Students can work on this from home if they would like to make their goal by the end of the week.  Email me if you would like me to send you their Zearn code.
Practice those multiplication tables! This is a third grade skill and your child needs to show mastery of this soon so they have a clear concrete understanding of this in order to move with skills needed for  5th grade skills such as algebra and fractions.  Students can practice using Xtramath.org at home or practicing with Beat their Time strategy.  Basically have them write out the table without answers out of order.  With 10 problems, 3 seconds each, their speed should be no more than 30 seconds. Have them practice using a stopwatch (available on phone) to see how fast they can get to complete the table.
The students can also create flash cards or practice using a worksheet that I have available for practice.  Lastly, I have compiled a list of interactive games on my livebinder. Here is the link the students can go to and practice their number.  http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=2109072
READING
Today students started i-ready in reading.  We are aiming to have this all finished by the end of the week so we can see where the kids are at.  Miss Chrusciel will also start assessing students for their updated guided reading level, so they can truly be picking books at their just right level.  This will probably start to happen towards the end of the week--most likely Thursday (Wednesday if she can).
