HOMEWORK
|
Monday-Thursday
-Math sheet
-Reading Response
-Lunar Log
-Read 20 minutes
Tuesday--word sort.
Have your child sort their words and teach someone at home their pattern
Tuesday--speed sort.
Time your child and see how fast they can correctly sort their words. See if they can beat their time.
Wednesday--blind sort.
Give your child their headings and read the words aloud individually so your child cannot see the word. They must tell you the appropriate heading it goes under.
I have sent home a packet of all the homework guidelines. On the last page, there is a list of different choice options for a Thursday activity. FRIDAY THIS HOMEWORK IS DUE. Someone at home must sign off on the homework sheet that your child completed an activity each night. |
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
|
MATH
|
Tomorrow students will take an assessment on skills learned the last few weeks: -writing decimals in word, standard, unit and expanded form -comparing and ordering decimals -rounding decimals -adding and subtracting decimals -applying same skills to word problems We will spend time on intervention groups/lessons for a few days after assessment for those students that need it. |
READING, WRITING, and WORDS THEIR WAY
|
READING:
The last two weeks have been spent working on quoting accurately from a text to support thinking. This week, students will have another exit ticket demonstrating their knowledge on this skill.
We will also be moving on to identifying the difference between factual and opinion statements in nonfiction texts.
**Students will continue to have their reading response each night for homework. After they read a minimum of 20 minutes, they are to develop a response to the section they read that evening. Their choices in activities are: visualize, make a connection, give a summary, ask questions, or make predictions. These are checked in class each day.**
WRITING:
Students will continue to work on structuring their narrative. They are working to include all essential literary elements into their drafts-- main characters, developing the setting, problem, solution, beginning/middle/end, putting their events in chronological order, etc.
WORDS THEIR WAY:
Students will receive their new sort/pattern for the week. As usual, students should be completing one assignment each night for homework to reinforce their word pattern--
Monday- word sort and teach someone at home the pattern
Tuesday-- speed sort
Wednesday-- blind sort
Thursday-- choice activity from packet
Friday-- DUE back to class

SOCIAL STUDIES
|
We will continue to look at Columbus' voyage through the point of view of his crew members. We will also be working on map reading skills (specifically reading latitude and longitude) through tracking some of Columbus' early voyages
|
SCIENCE
|
Students have set up their Science Notebooks. We have begun to review the movement of the Earth and Moon. Students will be learning about rotation and revolution, along with how they cause the seasons and day and night. The students are expected to look at the moon each night and draw what they see on their Lunar log. This log is due at the end of the month.
